The Risk function is key to supporting the Board, the Executive and the business to ensure that they effectively direct the strategic direction and development of the relevant risk policies, risk governance framework, risk culture and risk  systems / controls towards meeting best market practice, and where relevant best regulatory practice standards. The Risk function reports to the Board through the Finance and Operations Director and functionally works closely alongside the Compliance function.

The key priorities of the Risk function is to develop, deliver and complete the mainstream Annual Risk Plan in accordance with appropriate Board, regulatory and business expectations. The delivery of these key responsibilities is imperative towards the firm effectively and demonstrably managing its risks, within the appropriate firm’s risk appetite and tolerances, in a robust and professional manner.

Role Description

  • To support senior management in the design, development and implementation of its Risk Strategy and to lead on the planning and oversight of the delivery of the firm’ Annual Risk Plan.
  • To provide effective risk / regulatory assurance and reporting to senior management to ensure all key risk deliverables are successfully completed.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Manage the continued establishment, embedding, development and monitoring of the firm’s risk culture and Risk Management Framework by monitoring and mitigating the firm’s strategic and operational risks.

  • Manage the identification of risks and implementation of risk strategies e.g. defining the firm’s risk appetite.

  • Bring a balanced strategic and operational approach to all aspects of risk, by ensuring that the firm’s policies, procedures, advice and projects are aligned to the firm’s strategic objectives.

  • Support and manage the annual risk workshop.

  • Ensure professional, efficient and consistent risk advice is provided, that enables Risk’s reputation is upheld and promotes best practice

  • Support a strong relationship with both the Chairman of the Risk Group and all members of the Risk Group.

  • Produce Risk Group agendas, discuss with and invite senior management to Risk Groups, and be responsible for the production of and distribution of risk reports and minutes.

  • Ensure the risk management framework and documentation e.g. Connect sites, remain current, relevant and appropriate.

  • Develop, monitor and maintain the firm’s Risk Register to ensure that it is used and remains current.

  • Network with the Risk Champions across the firm (and out with the firm) to facilitate solutions to key initiatives and projects.

  • Assign senior management ownership of individual strategic and operational risks, thus acting as co-ordinator for the firm-wide risks with the individual Executive risk owners e.g. the annual risk scoring and re-prioritisation review.

  • Guardian of the firm’s suite of Mandatory Policies and ensuring that they remain current and relevant.

  • Generally act as a key point of contact for staff for day to day queries and projects relating to risk matters.

  • Ensure appropriate risk reports and management information is provided to senior management as required e.g. quarterly Risk Report for the Board


Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required


  • Essential degree qualified preferably in Risk Management or appropriate business degree
  • Desirable to be partly qualified in risk management e.g. IRM Certificate or Diploma
  • Theoretical and practical understanding of implementing a risk management framework


  • Previous experience of providing effective risk training
  • Previously managed and supported the firm to deliver to the effective completion and reporting of business risk registers
  • Experience of successfully leading on the delivery of a Risk Plan
  • Experience of supporting the development design and implementation of a Risk Strategy
  • Lead business to effectively deliver completion and 1st line management of business risk registers
